Happy New Year! I’m back from Spain!
I went with my friend Amanda, who I’ve known since we were eight years old. It was our first time traveling together. We went to Barcelona, Sevilla and (a very brief stop in) Madrid, to return to NYC where we both happen to reside once again. I will share photos soon!
In the meantime, welcome to 2010! What are your new years resolutions? I never really have any, but I always find it a good excuse to reflect on how lucky I am. The year passing makes me pause to remember all the good and often great things, people and events that have happened over the course of 12 months.
If you are keen on making a resolution, this fun site might be a good start. Made by Monina Velarde, it hosts a myriad of ideas with a place to contribute your own.

One in 8 Million: New York characters in sound and images, each story told in less than three minutes and accompanied by beautiful black-and-white photographs.

Jesse passed me this site that Happy Cog created to guage feedback during their redesign of Mozilla. Their approach to the project is to engage the community in a conversation throughout the entire process, and ask their thoughts on design and content solutions. To be honest, I’m not a fan of the pages they have mocked up so far, but appreciate the idea that everything from concepts to structure is up for discussion.

Our First Loves is a multimedia storytelling experiment. Produced by a group of student journalists in an interactive design class at the Medill School of Journalism, it is based on the idea that journalism on the Internet should be about connectivity. Storytellers upload video, audio or transcripts of their tale, and users have the option to rate based on how compelling the story was to them.
Many people have already shared their stories of first love, and you can even view a graph that charts the storyteller by how old they are now compared to the age that they first experienced love.
The site hopes to prove that new media journalism can be the ultimate equalizer, a proof of a human condition with the unique ability to bring even perfect strangers together.

Science magazine Seed launched a microsite that accompanies their year end issue. Created by Fangohr, The Universe in 09, is an exploration of the content of the print issue through an engaging flash experience.
From the studio’s case study: “Seed trusted us with little interference to carry the responsibility for launching our ambitious project in just a matter of weeks to coincide with the world economic forum “davos”. In our brainstorm session we made sure that content was king. We went out of our way to create ways to show off the spectacular graphics and photos in the issue at full resolution and give the user the chance to explore the breadth of content first hand. In keeping true with the print issue design, we integrated a way-finding mechanism in form of a spectral navigation: Just roll over the bar to highlight the associated content nodes or hover over a node to see its’ tags appear.”
