The Uniform Project

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Launched just last month, The Uniform Project functions both as an experiment in sustainable fashion and as a fundraiser for the Akankha’s School Project that is revolutionizing education in India. At the end of the year, all contributions will go toward Akanksha’s School Project to fund uniforms and other educational expenses for slum children in India.

I just registered for the 99% Conference, scheduled for next month, in New York City. I’m excited at the proximity of the event, as well as the speakers scheduled. The lineup thus far includes Michael Bierut, partner at Pentagram and Ji Li, creative director of Google Labs, as well as a handful of other notable industry types.

Here are some details:

Behance & Cool Hunting are teaming together to host a conference that “focuses less on idea-generation, and more on how inspiration and organization come together to make ideas happen.” When ideas do happen, it is not by accident. What separates creative people who make their ideas happen from the constant dreamers?

I have hopes of meeting some cool new people and maybe getting a bit inspired. I’ll definitely be blogging from it. Find out more at the99percent.com

Heart show, Philadelphia

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Something I have come to appreciate about Philadelphia is the strong community of artists that reside and work here. They consistently create art that is accessible and open to everyone.

One of these such efforts is the third annual Heart show at Jinxed store. The group show, now on display until the end of the month, features over 85 artists who created hearts in a variety of mediums for the Valentine’s holiday. All the work available for sale is listed under $100 dollars. I went to the opening Friday night, and it was great to see so many unique expressions of love, heartbreak and joy.
